Steven Kings
Steven Kings has been with Monmouth Choral Society since May 2014, before which he spent 14 years as Assistant Director of the BBC National Chorus of Wales. He is also conductor of Thornbury Choral Society and Assistant Music Director of Bristol Choral Society. He has built up a wide range of experience as choral conductor, chorus master, workshop leader and repetiteur, and he has prepared and performed every kind of choral repertoire from the Medieval to the 21st century. In previous years he conducted the Cotswold Chorus, the Bristol University Singers and New Bristol Voices.
Steven was educated at the King’s School, Worcester, and studied music at Cambridge University and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He now lives in Bristol where in addition to his work with choirs he is very busy as a piano soloist, accompanist and chamber musician, and as a piano teacher. He has also achieved success as a composer, with a number of prizes and commissions to his name. In May 2013 his Care-Charming Spells was given its world premiere by Thornbury Choral Society, who commissioned it and to whom it is dedicated. 2016 saw the world première of a substantial song-cycle for tenor and piano entitled April Zen.
